At some point in your life, you may find yourself in a conundrum that forces you to make a life- changing decision. One of the first decisions I had to make by myself was deciding what field to study. I struggled with trying to mix apparently disjointed desires: my natural inclination toward math and engineering and a profound love for the social sciences. I won’t go into detail about what happened or how I ended up studying engineering (if you want to know, you can read about it in my editorial in the November/December 2019 issue of IEEE Potentials); here, I break down the four simple words that are at the core of the IEEE and helped me close the gap between my passions: “Advancing technology for humanity.”
