The types of jobs that one may need to interview for can range from pick-and- shovel labor to technical and business positions in major corporations. Interviews are also frequently used for evaluation and promotional positions within a company. We write from experience in all of these circumstances. We concentrate on positions for which we were interviewed and hired as engineers as well as later, within a corporation, when we were interviewed and promoted into management. Over the course of a career in engineering, most people will have the opportunity to participate in a number of interviews. Interviews may be as simple as speaking informally to a career counselor, or they could be performance reviews, which can have a considerable impact on a career and advancement in it.
