Going beyond IQ

April 3, 2026 by Rumjhum Bandyopadhyay, Seema R. Singh

Abstract: Human intelligence is no longer a single concept confined to IQ. The concept of human intelligence has evolved in the last few decades, leading to the exploration of various kinds of human potentials that are effective in dealing with the emerging challenges of the 21st century. The three potentials—namely, emotional intelligence (EI), spiritual intelligence (SI), … [Read more...] about Going beyond IQ

Teaching cars to drive

April 2, 2026 by Filippos N. Tzortzoglou, Andreas A. Malikopoulos

Abstract: In recent decades, society has witnessed significant advancements in emerging mobility systems. These systems refer to transportation solutions that incorporate digital technologies, such as, automation and connectivity, to support sustainability goals, creating safer, more efficient, and user-centered mobility. Examples include connected and automated vehicles … [Read more...] about Teaching cars to drive

Artificial intelligence and Internet of Things for intelligent transportation systems

March 19, 2026 by Sudhir K. Routray, Sasmita Mohanty

Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of things (IoT) are key technologies for intelligent transportation systems (ITSs). The fusion of these two important technologies is essential for ITSs, which can steer the future of mobility toward greater safety, efficiency, and sustainability. AI-driven analytics, coupled with real-time IoT sensor data, enable dynamic … [Read more...] about Artificial intelligence and Internet of Things for intelligent transportation systems

Toward intelligent intersections: Artificial intelligence-enhanced road accident detection for mixed-traffic environments

March 19, 2026 by Swee Tee Fu, Bee Theng Lau, Mark Kit Tsun Tee

Abstract: Road accidents remain a major global concern, particularly at urban intersections where cars, motorcycles, and pedestrians interact in unpredictable and often chaotic ways. Traditional accident detection systems struggle in these mixed-traffic environments, especially in areas with minimal lane discipline and diverse road user behavior. To address this challenge, we … [Read more...] about Toward intelligent intersections: Artificial intelligence-enhanced road accident detection for mixed-traffic environments

Privacy implications of facial recognition technology

Facial recognition technology (FRT) has experienced enormous growth and rapid deployment across different sectors of the society in recent years, mostly motivated by safety, security, and commercial applications. However, major privacy questions arise around this technology, and regulators are still working to provide clear set of rules governing its use. This paper focuses on privacy implications of FRT usage. Specifically, we first present the definition of FRT, followed by an analysis of the vulnerability and risks that can potentially arise and how they might be concerning in such context. Finally, we discuss efforts needed to mitigate privacy concerns related to FRT, from both technical and regulatory perspectives.
