E-waste management in the digital era: A sustainable computing approach [Climate Change]

March 6, 2024 by Rajkumar Ramasamy, Rahul Sanmugam Gopi, Rohini Palanisamy

In the digital era, the proliferation of electronic devices has led to a surge in electronic waste (e-waste), posing significant environmental and health challenges. This article proposes a sustainable computing approach to e-waste management. The article explores the complexities of e-waste management and recycling frameworks within the context of sustainable computing and … [Read more...] about E-waste management in the digital era: A sustainable computing approach [Climate Change]

Accelerating smart campus development with an extensible framework

July 28, 2023 by Bugra Aydin

In recent years, underwater robots have been an essential focus of marine science and technology applications. Whether it is the application of military tasks or general civil affairs, underwater robots have played a significant role. For example, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) can work in the sea for a long time, have high maneuverability, and perform various underwater … [Read more...] about Accelerating smart campus development with an extensible framework

A framework for spectrum sharing in cognitive radio networks for military applications

September 1, 2021 by Bindu Bharti, Prabhat Thakur, and Ghanshyam Singh

In this article, the dynamic spectrum-accessing techniques—the overlay, underlay, and hybrid spectrum-sharing approaches-are exploited for the military communication. Furthermore, the importance of the energy efficiency of cognitive radio (CR) networks (CRNs) for military applications is discussed. We also emphasize security threats over the physical layer and their mitigation … [Read more...] about A framework for spectrum sharing in cognitive radio networks for military applications

Privacy implications of facial recognition technology

Facial recognition technology (FRT) has experienced enormous growth and rapid deployment across different sectors of the society in recent years, mostly motivated by safety, security, and commercial applications. However, major privacy questions arise around this technology, and regulators are still working to provide clear set of rules governing its use. This paper focuses on privacy implications of FRT usage. Specifically, we first present the definition of FRT, followed by an analysis of the vulnerability and risks that can potentially arise and how they might be concerning in such context. Finally, we discuss efforts needed to mitigate privacy concerns related to FRT, from both technical and regulatory perspectives.
